Fantasia begins this Thursday so you’d think I’d take a break from movies beforehand but nope, I went to see Moon<\/em> today in a proper theatre and it was time well spent.<\/p>\n

Sam Rockwell is on a station on the moon and… stuff happens.\u00a0 To say anything else would be giving it away but I will say that he is pretty much the only character in this film and it works.\u00a0 I went in knowing very little about this film and I recommend you do the same.\u00a0 Don’t read anything about it, don’t watch a trailer.\u00a0 Just go.\u00a0 You don’t need to see it in a theatre, I think DVD or download would be adequate but I enjoyed seeing it on the big screen.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Even though it’s set in the future there’s almost a retro feel to this film, because while it isn’t slow it is calm and steady, kinda like Silent Running<\/em> except, you know, good.\u00a0\u00a0Well done to\u00a0Sam Rockwell for totally selling it.\u00a0 I had a few nitpicks but they mostly relate to the core concept so if you just take the plot on its own terms and suspend your disbelief then it works.\u00a0 There are some fun sci-fi scenes and plot points but it’s mostly a cabin fever type deal, which is engrossing.\u00a0 I wasn’t 100% engaged, my mind did wander a couple times but it only wandered to the point where I questioned what I would do in a similar situation.\u00a0 It’s not like I was writing a grocery list or anything, so no, I wasn’t ever bored or disinterested.\u00a0<\/p>\n

I feel like I’ve already said too much so I’ll shut up now.<\/p>\n
